Value Partners and VSFG Announce Strategic Partnership for Supporting the Growth of Virtual Asset Ecosystem in Hong Kong

20 July 2023 (Hong Kong) – To support the development of Hong Kong into a leading Asian family office hub, Venture Smart Financial Holdings Limited ("VSFG") joined hands with FamilyOfficeHK of InvestHK to organize roadshows to promote family office businesses, developing Hong Kong into a leading global family office hub. 

In March 2023, the Hong Kong Government (“Government”) issued the Policy Statement on Developing Family Office Businesses in Hong Kong, setting out its policy stances and measures for developing a vibrant ecosystem for global family offices and asset owners. The policy measures aim to create a conducive and competitive environment for the businesses of global family offices and asset owners to thrive in Hong Kong. 

To attract more family offices to Hong Kong, VSFG planned to co-organize a series of roadshows in major cities in the Mainland China to promote Hong Kong as a preferred destination of choice for family offices. Organized by VSFG with full support from FamilyOfficeHK of InvestHK, the roadshow series themed “Hong Kong Family Office Dinner Seminar”, has been officially commenced at the beginning of this month. 

The first roadshow was held in Shenzhen, which welcomed a group of Ultra-High-Net-Worth Individuals who are interested in setting up  family offices in Hong Kong. Experts from different fields were invited to share the unique advantages and opportunities of Hong Kong as a wealth management center, the tax policy of the Government for family offices operating in Hong Kong, as well as the importance of setting up a family office for a family.

Speaking at the dinner seminar, Mr. Lawrence Chu, Chairman of VSFG, said, “VSFG has been working closely with FamilyOfficeHK of InvestHK to proactively promote the development of family office businesses in Hong Kong.” Mr. Chu also thanked FamilyOfficeHK of InvestHK for the continuous support, making the event a great success.

Mr. Jason Fong, Global Head of Family Office of InvestHK explained the policy measures that aim to create a conducive and competitive environment for the businesses of global family offices and asset owners to thrive in Hong Kong.

When sharing the unique advantages of Hong Kong as a wealth management center, Mr. Jason Fong, the Global Head of Family Office of InvestHK, pointed out, “Hong Kong is Asia's greatest and global's second largest cross-border private wealth management center. As of the first half of 2022, Hong Kong is home to over 15,000 ultra-high-net-worth individuals, surpassing New York and Los Angeles, which makes it naturally the preferred choice of location for global family offices.” Mr. Fong also explained how Hong Kong can fully meet the needs of developing a family office business. 

Representatives from PwC Hong Kong were invited to explain wealth planning, family office and family governance in detail. “There are many different forms of family offices, but in general, family offices are a professional team dedicated to serving families. By setting up a family office in Hong Kong, profits earned from qualifying transactions can be exempted from Hong Kong profit tax,” said a representative of PwC Hong Kong.

1 July 2023 (Hong Kong) – Venture Smart Financial Holdings Limited ("VSFG"), the first SFC-approved virtual asset manager in Hong Kong, announced today that its Chairman Lawrence Chu has been appointed as a non-official member of the Task Force on Promoting Web3 Development (“Task Force”) newly established by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“Government”). The term takes effect starting from today, for two years. 

In October 2022, the Government issued the Policy Statement on Development of Virtual Assets (VAs) in Hong Kong, setting out the policy stance and approach towards the sector. Since VAs are an integral part of the Web 3.0 ecosystem, the Financial Secretary announced the establishment of the Task Force in the 2023-24 budget.

Joining the Task Force chaired by the Financial Secretary, Lawrence will be working with other non-official members from the relevant market sectors, key government officials, and financial regulators concerned to provide recommendations on the sustainable and responsible development of Web3 in Hong Kong.

Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman (b. 1977) aims to challenge the audience’s comfortableness by recasting the simple perspective on quotidian objects. The familiarity and positivity from the artwork allows the public to explore art in an affable way. Subsequently he crafts these into clear and iconic images; oddly oversize “toy” that alienate and unsettle through their sheer size and use of materials, such as Rubber Duck (2007): an inflatable giant-sized representation of a rubber duck bath-toy that has been seen in harbou	rs across the world, from France to Brazil, New Zealand to Hong Kong, and from Pittsburgh to even Santiago in Chile. They are immediately identifiable and have an instant appeal. 

The attention Hofman gives to his surroundings lets him examine the possibility of material and explore the essence and beauty of form and shape. He expands his imagination by merging the local culture into his artwork and evoking the missing interaction. 

Social engagement and intercommunication are key elements of Hofman's creation. Hofman generates an encounter for the audience to his universal aesthetic by sharing his drive for sculpture in public space. The joy he creates allow audiences to abandon the idea of races and religions and enter conversations with the artworks. By enlarging the creation Hofman aims to reflect the equability and insignificance of oneself. 

Hofman is best known for his playful gigantic urban installations like the giant rubber duck, the massive rabbit and many more. His works have been exhibited in more than 20 locations over the world and have become one of the most recognizable forms of urban art to date. The Dutch artist has taken his monumental Rubber Duck on a world tour and visited Hong Kong in 2013 - curated by the creative brand AllRightsReserved (ARR). For the 10th anniversary, his floating pop-art icon is returning as two enormous ‘Double Ducks’, reunite with citizens and tourists at the Victoria Harbour. 

Hofman attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Kampen, The Netherlands in 2000; then followed his MFA from the Kunsthochschule Weissensee in Berlin, Germany.

Virtual Asset Industry Leaders Launch Association in Hong Kong to Provide a Forum for Collaboration, whilst Spearheading the Best in Both Commercial Innovation and Sound Protection

Hong Kong SAR, May 18, 2023 – The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has shortlisted a financial solution in a secured lending product backed by tokenized real assets for participation in the inaugural e-HKD Pilot Programme. This proposed solution is led by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), HKT Payment Limited and ZA Bank. They will be joined by paywith.glass and Venture Smart Financial Holdings Limited (VSFG) as a consortium to collectively develop and evaluate this application, leveraging the potential programmability feature of e-HKD.

The consortium will bring together key players from various industry verticals to foster long-term e-HKD development, leveraging their collective cross-industry experience and ensuring a diverse range of perspectives. The initial focus will be on leveraging e-HKD's potential features to empower new applications in a secured lending product, as part of the e-HKD Pilot Programme.

The e-HKD Pilot Programme is part of HKMA's strategic three-rail approach to prepare for potential e-HKD implementation. Rail 1 focuses on establishing the necessary technological and legal foundations, while Rail 2, running concurrently with Rail 1, is aimed at conducting in-depth exploration of e-HKD use cases and addressing implementation and design issues. Rail 3 concerns the rollout of e-HKD.
